Jackie Robinson, the man who courageously broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball, would have been 100 today!!
I never saw Jackie play, but if it wasn't for HIM my two favorite all-time players, Willie Mays (#24 for the New York / San Francisco Giants and New York Mets) and Mariano Rivera (#42 for the New York YANKEES) might never have had THEIR chance to dazzle us!! (Mariano, by the way, is the last Major League player to wear Jackie's #42 before it was retired. He wore it WORTHILY.)
I highly recommend this BOOK (above) about Jackie, by Fox News's Ed Henry. It explores Jackie's Christian FAITH which helped him overcome the racism he faced!! I have an autographed copy, and I treasure it.
I also recommend this wonderful MOVIE about Jackie starring Chadwick ("The Black Panther") Boseman and Harrison Ford. Excellent, EXCELLENT tribute, to a great man!! There are OTHER "Jackie" movies, but this is The Best, by FAR.
