"Something I've Learned"

In my blog last week, the one entitled "'Bombshell' Will Be a Bomb'," I said I ordered one of Gretchen Carlson's books and would read it.  (Gretchen, of course, was the former Fox News employee who brought down the late Fox News Chairman / CEO Roger Ailes for sexual harassment.)

Most of my readers are CONSERVATIVE (as am I) and, who knows, some may think I'm "leaning left" by ordering Gretchen's book, but I don't care. Sexual harassment victimizes women of ALL political persuasions and CONSERVATIVE men (such as Ailes) obviously can be guilty of it, also.

I've BEGUN to read Gretchen's book and find it very interesting.  I don't agree with EVERYTHING she says, of course, but here's one excerpt regarding something I've learned.  It has to do with WHY WOMEN WHO CLAIM THEY WERE SEXUALLY HARASSED DON'T COME FORWARD SOONER.  Gretchen lists seven reasons...

I have to admit, I often ask the question "Why didn't she come forward sooner?"  when I hear a new Sexual harassment claim against someone (thankfully, it has never happened to ME.)  Gretchen's seven reasons make a LOT of sense to me, though of course sometimes decades-old accusations ARE fabrications or a case of what I call "mistaken memories."

When the late Stan Lee got accused of Sexual harassment before his death, I wrote my blog "Women Who Cry 'Wolf" " in his defense.  In that blog, I stated why I thought the claims against the 95 year old were ridiculous and how women who MAKE such claims make it even HARDER for women who are TRULY abused to come forward.  That's something Gretchen left OUT of her list of why harassed women stay silent, by the way...women who make FALSE claims which discredit those with VALID ones!!  Here's that blog, from a year-and-a-half ago...

But despite what Carlson left OUT of her list, the things she mentioned represent SOMETHING I'VE LEARNED, for which I am very, very grateful.
