"MLB Committing Suicide??"
Major League Baseball is in serious, serious trouble right now and it's NOT just because of the Coronavirus and the fact that 17 (seventeen!) players on the Miami Marlins have tested positive for COVID!! Major League Baseball had problems BEFORE the Virus even broke out (around the time of Spring Training this year) and they have ADDED to the problems.
First, anyone remember the HOUSTON ASTROS CHEATING SCANDAL?? This came to light last fall, after the World Series, and many were / are pegging it as the worst scandal in the history of baseball. COVID-19 did not CREATE that problem, it only created a diversion from it as ONE serious issue now being overlaid by a BIGGER one which threatens ALL teams. But the Astros (and Red Sox) using technology to CHEAT as they did really, really HURT baseball.
Now....somehow, MLB has pieced together a plan to play 60 games (out of the usual 162) DESPITE the Virus, but the fact that they've chosen to endorse the Marxist "Black Lives Matter" as the abbreviated season has begun is not going over very well.
People watch sports to ESCAPE politics and divisiveness, to see people WORKING TOGETHER FOR A COMMON GOAL AS A TEAM. Most of us have ZERO interest in political posturing during a baseball game, but there were Yankees Aaron Hicks and Giancarlo Stanton taking a knee during the National Anthem last week!! And apparently, they did so with the blessing of MLB. I can only hope the YANKEES front office will contain these guys, but MLB paved the way for this by inverting their "MLB" logo to say "BLM" and stenciling it on all of the pitching mounds as the abbreviated season finally opened. I mean, seriously, was this the right time to alienate baseball fans FURTHER??
In the 1980s through the mid-'90s there was no more popular Yankee player than Don Mattingly, and Don passed the baton on to Derek Jeter when he retired in 1995. Jeter is now General Manager of the Marlins and Mattingly is the FIELD Manager of the Marlins, and I hold both responsible for the RECKLESSNESS of their players who apparently violated COVID protocol right as "Summer Camp" was ending before the season began. But most of all, I hold MLB responsible for making a bad situation WORSE by committing suicide and endorsing BLM.
THAT, my friends, is a decision they had TOTAL control over. It's the wrong CAUSE, yes, but even if the cause were right it comes at the wrong TIME.
If you look at the Miami Marlins LOGO in the picture above, it looks like the lines from the baseball are SPEARING the fish, and the fish is WOUNDED. It's an attractive, but ODD design which is highly symbolic of what Major League Baseball is doing to ITSELF right now!!
