"JUNETEENTH: What a Difference a YEAR Makes!!"

Top: LAST year 's Facebook post I did on June 19th.

Bottom: THIS year's.

What a difference a YEAR makes, eh??

YES, MY ATTITUDE TOWARDS CELEBRATING “JUNETEENTH” HAS CHANGED IN THE LAST YEAR (compare the two memes)!! Of course I still celebrate the end of slavery (top meme, from one year ago) BUT....the nationwide riots, looting, beatings of white people, crude conduct of many (not all) BLM supporters and idiotic calls to defund Police have led to the perspective I shared on Facebook YESTERDAY, in the BOTTOM meme.

I’m just sick of all the reminders of things I never did but am being blamed for!! In January, whites are reminded of racism THEY never committed, on Martin Luther King Day.

In February, it’s Black History MONTH.

In April, baseball fans like me have to hear about Jackie Robinson’s suffering over and over and over and OVER.

And I’m expected to embrace “Juneteenth,” in JUNE now?? A little hard to do having seen the CHAOS and CARNAGE that has happened in the last year, and all of the OTHER stuff I’ve had to listen to all of THIS year so far (oh, I forgot “Loving Day,” a week ago today....white people had to have a deluge of guilt dumped on them for that, ALSO.....even though most of us have NO problem with interracial marriage, and never did)!!
After seeing the riots last year (and I don’t care “WHY” they started), I no longer think “Juneteenth” can be a healing thing for blacks and whites. I see it now, rightly or wrongly, as another attempt by some to remind us of our past issues and to DIVIDE us, not UNITE.
And I know I’m not alone with these perspectives, I’m just the guy who actually SAYS what many (white AND black) people are saying and feeling!!

"Dr. King's Dream Has Become a NIGHTMARE"

I wrote the above on my Facebook page last night. This entire blog will refer to it, so if you haven't read it, please do before you proceed. This blog will not make sense unless you read that post (click photo to enlarge). Thank you!!

The Lincoln statue in that photo is the one my mom used to take me to when I was a kid. I would sit next to Abe (whose birthday I was born on) and be told of his legendary truthfulness and the way he freed the slaves. Abe was assassinated by a white racist BECAUSE he freed the slaves, let's be honest (like Honest Abe, himself)!! And by the way, that statue sits by the Courthouse in Newark near a street named for the great Martin Luther King, Jr.

I deeply resent the similarities between the brand new (as of YESTERDAY) George Floyd statue by City Hall in Newark and the LINCOLN sculpture, by the Courthouse in Newark. Admittedly, I have an emotional bond to the LINCOLN piece as many have an emotional attachment to the FLOYD piece. Both WERE assassinated, but again Lincoln actually DID something positive with his life which LED to his murder. What did George Floyd do, pray tell??  He's getting a statue only because he WAS murdered. And let's not make this a RACIAL issue because the man who did the Floyd sculpture was white and BOTH Lincoln and Floyd were killed by WHITE murderers.

Face it....George Floyd is being honored merely because he's BLACK and was murdered. See, in America now if you're black you must automatically be a good person (and if you're not, you can blame white people for it)!! And if you're MURDERED while black (if the murderer is a WHITE man, that is) you're automatically a hero...a saint...a martyr in 2021 America!! The detail on the George Floyd statue is GREAT but if they gave it a name, I hope they've named the statue "A Monument to Reverse Racism" because that's EXACTLY what it is in my opinion, IF we are to be honest.

Dr. King dreamed of a day when people would be judged by the content of their character, not the color of their skin, but that Dream has become a NIGHTMARE. Dig into George Floyd's past BEFORE he got killed and evaluate the content of his character. And understand that it's only the color of his skin that makes him a hero to so many. The day may come when the Floyd statue REPLACES Lincoln's instead of just RESEMBLING it, and of course GEORGE FLOYD DID NOT DESERVE TO DIE. But neither does he deserve to be honored in any way similar to how LINCOLN was honored!! Does anyone recall historical records of people looting, burning buildings and assaulting innocent people across America when LINCOLN was killed?? I didn't think so.

It's a free country, those who want to honor Floyd may do so but I hope they give up ALL pretense of respect for Dr. King!! For THEY have helped create...and perpetuate...the Nightmare that his Dream has become.

"Baseball FINALLY Decides to Honor Lou Gehrig...Why NOW??"

Today is the first-ever LOU GEHRIG DAY, deservedly named after Yankee great LOU GEHRIG. This special day is LONG overdue for the man who died of "Lou Gehrig's Disease" ("A.L.S.") over 80 years ago and showed tremendous, legendary courage in the face of that death. There's no doubt that his STATS and his GUTS make him exemplary. But why is Major League Baseball deciding to honor him NOW, is my question. "The Iron Horse" has deserved to have a day in his honor for DECADES....why NOW, I ask.

I would suggest to you that MLB is facing a big backlash for stupidly endorsing Black Lives Matter a year ago.  Anyone remember the clever-yet-niave  MLB / BLM logo on Opening Day last year?? Since then, of course, many have wised up to see that "Black Lives Matter" is NOT about black lives at all, it's a huge scam and MLB's endorsing of it has alienated MUCH of their (white) fanbase. This means REVENUES ARE DOWN and now that ballparks are slowly re-opening after COVID last year, MLB needs them full with as many white fans as possible (watch any game, in any city, at any time and the people in the stands are 75% white).

So, MLB gives (white icon) LOU GEHRIG a day every year, to go along now with (black) Jackie Robinson and Roberto Clemente's Day. And they do it (they say) to boast that they are "promoting ALS Awareness."

I don't believe it.

In my opinion, this move is not to promote ALS Awareness, it's to distract...to try to run from...and hide from...the fact that they endorsed BLM only last year.

It's to try to NEGATE their BLM endorsement.

MLB must think that their fans are as gullible as THEY are!! All of that said, HAPPY FIRST-EVER LOU GEHRIG DAY. Jackie and Roberto DESERVE their days...so does LOU, and these days white men need every break they can get!!
