My New York Yankees are the FIRST team to wrap up their Divisional Series, meaning they WILL advance to the League Championship Series!! Last night they completed a three game sweep of the Minnesota Twins and they did so with great hitting, timely pitching and amazing defense. A decade ago, the Yankees were led by Derek Jeter and now it's ANOTHER "D.J." leading the way....D.J. LeMahieu, their leadoff hitter, multi-position player, MVP candidate and seemingly the only guy on the team who didn't get INJURED this year. If they're going to advance FURTHER this fall, past this NEXT round and beyond, however, the key is that, as a team they MUST KEEP DOING WHAT THEY'VE BEEN DOING.........flawlessly.
See, I still believe their opponent in the next round WILL be the dreaded HOUSTON ASTROS who have a most formidable pitching staff (of STARTING pitching, anyway.) And good pitching ALWAYS shuts down good hitting.
At this point, the Astros have NOT clinched their spot in the L.C.S., they can do so with a win TONIGHT. And even though the Tampa Bay Rays have forced that best-of-five series to a 4th game, I still believe Houston WILL prevail.
But the Rays have ALREADY helped the Yanks by forcing Game 4, making Verlander pitch TONIGHT so he cannot open Game 1 of the L.C.S. on Saturday (assuming the Astros go on to win the series.)
And if the Rays force a Game FIVE, that would be even better!!
Whether they face the Astros OR the Rays in the next round, the Yankees need to remember their "key" if they want to go to the WORLD Series!! My wife and I will be watching, hoping they DO.
