Wrote this poem this morning, it's about how Baseball COULD help our country's racial divide IF they could play (looks like we WON'T have baseball this year, however). The ULTIMATE answer is spiritual Revival, yes, but baseball brings people together, at least superficially...
“NO BASEBALL (2020)”
Remember when our team once took the field,
Men of every race, same uniforms?
It somehow caused the differences to heal
Remember, then, when teamwork was the norm
Men of every race, same uniforms?
It somehow caused the differences to heal
Remember, then, when teamwork was the norm
Remember having baseball “every day,”
A diversion from divisions all around?
Remember, just a man up at the plate,
Colorless, like him upon the mound?
A diversion from divisions all around?
Remember, just a man up at the plate,
Colorless, like him upon the mound?
Remember, too, when teams traveled around
To cities far away…not riot-torn?
Remember how through rivalries we found
New friends…old friendships, suddenly reborn?
To cities far away…not riot-torn?
Remember how through rivalries we found
New friends…old friendships, suddenly reborn?
Remember seeing men work side-by-side
Striving hard to reach a common goal?
This year, it’s sad, for baseball's died
And with it, part of our great nation’s soul.
Striving hard to reach a common goal?
This year, it’s sad, for baseball's died
And with it, part of our great nation’s soul.
